“It’s late, the platform at the Gare du Nord is deserted and a lady is waiting for her lover. Not normally one to wait for anyone, she feels compelled to after one too many cognacs, which have left her moody yet daring. She has thrown on clothes she feels at ease in, graphic garments which take her from day to night and back again. She is nonchalant but loaded with luxe accessories that complete her look.
Inspiration comes from cinema du look of the 80s, think relaxed French clothing meets Dr Zhivago, with a colour palette inspired by glass artist Louis Barillet whose use of black, white and grey has fed Holly Fulton’s love for all things monochrome. The glamazon prints of the 90s and Holly’s passion for pop art have not been neglected though with bold flashes of orange and yellow still present throughout the collection.
Trompe L’oiel effects feature again this season with Swarovski crystals used both as a print and to add a 3-D element. New textures and materials such as snakeskin, suede appliqué, velvet and wool also make an appearance with Holly’s signature embellishment, silk habotai and hand drawn prints.
The look is luxurious and powerful with an element of the carefree.
Holly Fulton is the winner of Young Designer of the Year Awards at the Scottish Fashion Awards, a British Fashion Award and has won the Elle Style Award for New Designer 2010. This is her first season showing solo following two seasons with Fashion East.”
